Nero Illegal Disc Error

Last Updated: 2/15/10

This error can be caused by many different problems, but the most common is simply poor quality media (a Cheap CD or DVD). Finding the right media can be very tricky sometimes. The type of media that works best for you may be different from the type of media that works well for other people. This is because the drive itself has to work well with the media. All CD's and DVD's are coded with a "Media Code". This tells you who made the disc. A single brand can produce discs with many different media codes. This makes it hard, because you may not be able to get the same discs even if you get the same brand everytime. Using a program like Nero's Info tool can help you find out the real producer of a disc. Many burner programs can also tell you.

Other causes of this error can be out dated version of nero, out dated firmware for your CD-RW or DVD-/+RW drive, or other issues. Check your ASPI version and make sure DMA is turned on.

See my DVD Firmware Upgrade page for more info on this error and about upgrading the firmware of you DVD drive.
