Be careful about install SP3 for Windows XP if you have an AMD Processor and / or an HP computer:

UPDATE!
I had to fix the exact problem described in this article recently. The computer reboots in a continuous loop with a stop error 0x0000007E or 0x0000007F (some times called a blue screen error or a BSOD). I had to boot into safe mode and then uninstall SP3. You can uninstall by looking for the uninstall program from c:\windows\$NtServicePackUninstall$\spuninst\. Then I ran the "Access Denied" fix from Microsoft's website. Then I installed SP3 made the registry change for the intelppm service and then rebooted. Everything worked good that way.
