CentOS: No valid devices found for file system

Last Updated: 12/23/08

Problem:
You are trying to Install CentOS and the install CD is having trouble locating your hard drives, because you have a RAID.

Solution:
There is no one solution to this problem. So here are some tips:

- Double check, then triple check that you are using the latest version of CentOS for your install.
- Try changing the emulation / compatibility mode on your RAID controller. "Mass Storage" emulation seems to work best.
- On the very first setup screen type, "expert noprobe dd". Then you can supply a driver disk or you can choose from a list of drivers in case the one you need is already listed. Some times it helps to try numerous drivers from the list.
